As Rivers Casino approaches its 10th anniversary in Schenectady, local leaders and business officials say the casino has played a major role in the city’s economic growth and downtown revitalization.

When Phillip Morris first became CEO of Proctors Collaborative, downtown Schenectady looked far different than it does today.

“It’s not overstating to say that downtown was a ghost town,” Morris said.

Since opening, Rivers Casino has become a significant source of revenue for the city and county, while also building partnerships with nearby organizations such as Proctors. “We fit into a puzzle and we know it. And they are a piece of the puzzle,” Morris said.
