The Dutch government continues to consider further restrictions on gambling advertising, including a possible blanket ban, after acknowledging gaps in current player protection measures.
In newly published parliamentary responses, State Secretary Claudia van Bruggen also addressed concerns over Cruks, the national self-exclusion system in the Netherlands. She noted that operators cannot use the system to verify the self-exclusion status of all recipients when sending out advertising.
Further, Cruks cannot prevent access to unlicensed operators, leaving registered users possibly still exposed to gambling marketing.
Van Bruggen linked the potential tightening of rules directly to player protection, particularly for vulnerable groups attempting to stop gambling.
