Mississippi’s debate over mobile sports betting has resurfaced after Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann posted a warning on X urging the Senate to reject the measure.
Hosemann cited addiction risk, threats to brick-and-mortar casinos and unresolved questions about tax revenue. He also raised concerns about athlete misconduct and the impact on young adults, who he said can receive push notifications to bet on their phones around the clock.
“Online mobile sports betting increases the risk of gambling-related harm and addiction compared with traditional in-person betting,” Hosemann wrote. “Our young adults are particularly susceptible and can receive push notifications to bet on their phones 24/7.”
