The leader of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians is pursuing other development opportunities on 170 acres near a long-stalled casino project in Muskegon County.
The tribe for the past 15 years has tried to build a casino and 220-room hotel on a 60-acre property on Harvey Street at the U.S. 31/I-96 interchange in Fruitport Township. Per the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the development needs state and federal approval before shovels could go in the ground, because the property is not on tribal land.
The casino project has remained stalled due to mixed signals from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office, Tribal Ogema Larry Romanelli said.
