As contract negotiations with some 1,300 employees stall out and a strike looms at Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett, union workers argue that the casino resort has the money to pay them more.
But is that really true?
Overall, Encore and its operator, Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts, have been more financially stable than many other gaming operators. But brick-and-mortar casinos face a variety of pressures from growing land-based competition and mounting online gambling options. And Encore is not immune.
With $847 million in revenue last year, Encore is by far the largest casino in Massachusetts, and has been since its opening in 2019.
