Workers at Ocean Downs have rejected the latest contract offer from owner Churchill Downs Inc., leaving the casino and its unionized workforce without a new labor agreement ahead of the summer season.

“You can’t tell someone that you respect them and then ask them to work for a sub-living wage,” said Tracy Lingo, president of Unite Here Local 7, the labor union representing about 100 workers at the casino.

When negotiations resume Tuesday, it’ll be the 17th time that both sides have met to hash out a new contract since September. Workers have been operating under a contract extension since October.
