Macau’s gross gaming reached MOP$21.9 billion (US$2.71 billion) in August, representing a 1.2% year-on-year decline, according to data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).
This was, however, 8.1% higher than previously released figures for July, which was impacted by the football World Cup.
Based on the DICJ’s figures, GGR for the first eight months of 2026 combined grew 3.7% to MOP$169.1 billion (US$20.9 billion).
Citigroup previously indicated strong growth at the start of August, boosted by improved VIP volume and hold.
The investment bank put the improvement down to pent-up demand post-World Cup as well as major concerts held at Galaxy Arena and Venetian Arena that helped drive premium visitation.
