A..House effort to enact a sweeping legalization of online sports betting has gained unprecedented momentum and will be considered by the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the coming weeks.
“I recognize how much this is going on illegally, unsanctioned, and without any sort of oversight, so it doesn’t make sense for us to put our head in the sand and pretend like it’s not going on,” Ways and Means Chairman Bruce Bannister, who is a sponsor of the sports betting bill, told reporters after the bill easily cleared a subcommittee March 30.
