The Native American tribe that owns the Chukchansi Gold Casino & Resort in Madera County has again sued in federal court to try to stop the massive North Fork Mono Casino & Resort built less than 40 miles away by a neighboring tribe.
The federal complaint by the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians is the tribe’s third in 14 years against the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, which is set to open its recently constructed casino in October. The lawsuit filed in June suggest the new casino’s placement off Highway 99 could give it an unfair business advantage over Chukchansi, located off Highway 41 in the foothills.
