After Lucas Jumalon missed the chance to quickly close out the World Series of Poker Main Event title, he told his opponent he was preparing for a lengthy battle.
“I said to him, ‘Are you ready to go to war? ’” Jumalon said. “I meant that. I was locked in and ready to go. ”
But Jumalon didn’t need much time after that proclamation, defeating Lauri Saaskilahti in a heads-up match that lasted a little over an hour to win the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em World Championship on Wednesday at Horseshoe Events Center.
Jumalon, a resident of Spokane, Washington, outlasted a field of 9,208 entrants to capture the $10 million first prize and his first career WSOP bracelet, which are awarded for tournament victories.
