The Peoria City Council is moving forward with plans that could bring future land-based casinos to the other side of the Illinois River.

During Tuesday’s meeting, council members unanimously voted to “retain a financial advisor to assist with the capital structure for that proposal and legal counsel with experience in Illinois Gambling Law and facility approvals with the Board.”

The city hired attorney John Elias from Elias, Meginnes & Seghetti law firm and the investment firm Innovation Capital LLC to develop a project proposal to support a land-based casino in Peoria.

City Hall hopes to woo Boyd Gaming, the parent company for Par-A-Dice Casino, after it announced plans earlier this year to develop “a new, modern, and fresh gaming facility.”
