IBIA reports 14% increase in suspicious bets in 2022 as Europe leads the table

Europe remains the hotbed of suspicious betting activity according to the International Betting Integrity Association’s (IBIA) report on 2022.

The organisation outlined that the 268 alerts reported to sports governing bodies in 2022 represented a 14% increase on the previous year, but was ‘consistent’ with the 230 annual alerts observed in 2019 and 2020.

A quarterly breakdown saw 50 alerts in Q4, a decline on the respective 80 and 90 alerts generated in Q2 and Q3, but still higher than the 48 reported during the first quarter of the year.

IBIA CEO Khalid Ali said: “The protective shield provided by IBIA is a vital tool in identifying and sanctioning attempted corruption on regulated betting markets.
