The Hawaii group studying legalized gambling is about halfway through its process. And while they understand the benefits of the revenue gambling can bring, they’re weighing whether the benefits outweigh the potential problems.

Senator Lynn DeCoite is co-chair of the state’s tourism and gaming working group. You could say she has a vested interest in legalizing gambling in Hawaii.

“We can ask all those questions that I have challenges with because my dad loves to gamble, and I’m like, what’s wrong with you,” said Sen. DeCoite.

The group met on Wednesday with industry experts and talked about the many positives gaming brings. Experts say it supports 1.8 million jobs across the country, brought in $125 billion dollars in revenue last year and $52 billion in taxes for states.
