Mayor Eddie Melton announced Thursday that Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana donated $100,000 in storm relief funds to the city to assist Gary residents.
Northwest Indiana residents, including many in Gary, experienced prolonged power outages and damage after destructive storms tore through the Region last week. Many continue to go without power, and Gary residents may have to wait two weeks after the storm for power restoration.
The storm relief funds will help support residents with necessities such as food, hydration, health and hygiene items. Funds will also be delegated to assist with cleaning and debris removal supplies, according to the press release.
