FOX Bet may have stopped accepting wagers in New Jersey on July 31 as its parent company Flutter prepares to shutter the site Aug. 31, but the state’s gaming regulators aren’t quite done with the mobile sportsbook, leveling an $80,000 fine against FOX Bet for accepting wagers on in-state college sports teams.
New Jersey — along with 12 other states — doesn’t allow wagering on in-state college teams. Illinois allows it, but it’s limited to in-person betting.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement first filed a complaint against FOX Bet more than two years ago, alleging the sportsbook accepted bets from within the state of New Jersey on a Feb. 13, 2021, college basketball game between Rutgers and Northwestern.
