Do Missouri’s legislators and state attorney general feel at least a little shame that they’re forcing lawsuit plaintiffs to do their jobs for them? Two pending suits against a politically connected gaming-machine company allege its games placed at gas stations and other venues around Missouri violate state law, which doesn’t allow for electronic gambling outside of licensed casinos.
It’s outrageous that private citizens are having to confront this obvious illegality in civil court because state officials refuse to. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who has no qualms about state intervention to remove St. Louis’ top prosecutor for failing to do her job, has declined to do his by taking action against the illegal machines.
