The creators of MGM Springfield made a lot of promises to the city of Springfield, back when they wanted to win an exclusive Western Massachusetts casino.
More than a few of those promises were not kept. The city has every right to press MGM to make good on its pledges, as the big, publicly traded gaming company, with a market capitalization of over $10 billion, seeks to sell its Springfield holding, which opened eight years ago after a nearly $1 billion investment.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and his team have been pressing MGM for years to live up to the binding deal they struck on May 14, 2013.
