A local realtor and developer is pitching a lakeside destination resort at Walters Lake as Steuben County competes with Allen and DeKalb counties for Indiana’s newest casino license.

Realtor Mark Hansbarger unveiled plans Tuesday ahead of a Fremont Plan Commission meeting, where members were scheduled to review a proposed overlay district for the 186-acre property west of Fremont.

The meeting is part of the early planning process and does not determine whether a casino will be built.

Hansbarger is proposing a more than $500 million destination resort that would include a 400-room hotel, restaurants, trails, family attractions and a casino. He emphasized the development is intended to be much more than a gaming destination.
