The temporary casino operating in front of Caesars Virginia opened in May 2023 and generated $29 million in gaming taxes and revenue — up to October of this year.

Danville City Manager Ken Larking noted that the revenue they’ve collected from the temporary casino was monumental for the city’s economy, as it funded projects like the new police department headquarters and contributed to so many sectors across the board.

“Education…workforce development, economic development, economic opportunity, investments in infrastructure and parks and recreation,” Larking said. “All the things that if you do it right it will produce their own long-term benefits for the community,” he added.
