Atlantic County and the state have come to a settlement agreement over the ongoing litigation regarding the 2021 amendments to the casino payment-in-lieu-of-taxes law, the county said Tuesday morning.

With this $15 million settlement, County Executive Dennis Levinson estimates the county will receive close to $59 million more than it would have otherwise had it not challenged the 2016 PILOT and the 2021 amendments.

“I am elated with this settlement and extremely grateful for the efforts of our legal counsel,” Levinson said in a statement. “It was a hard‐fought battle.”

The agreement was reached and finalized April 2, according to the county. In February, Levinson and Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn Suárez met for four hours to discuss a settlement.
