Gov. Mikie Sherrill wants to see the New Jersey Legislature “get to work” on resolving the question of whether smoking should be banned in the city’s casinos.

In an interview last week with The Press of Atlantic City, the Democratic governor did not take a position on whether or not smoking should continue to be allowed at the nine casinos.

But she did say she will be having talks with legislative leaders on their timetable for considering long-pending legislation that would either ban smoking outright or allow it to continue with additional restrictions.

Sherrill said the issue needs to be decided through legislation, not by relying on the courts.
