The city’s physical casinos had their best summer in over a decade this year, as they continue to compete with inflation, rising costs and an ever-growing desire by gamblers to make bets online.
They managed that despite a sluggish August, in which money won from in-person gamblers was down at every casino in town except Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, said the brick-and-mortar casinos had their best summer in more than 10 years in terms of the amount of money won from in-person gamblers, at $856 million.
That narrowly eclipsed the amount they won last summer.
