The National Assembly of Armenia passed legislation last week that will double fees for online casinos and bookmakers. The amendments to the Tax Code, proposed by MP Hayk Sargsyan, were approved during the second reading and adopted in full.
The new law establishes a graduated increase in financial burden on gambling operators, with initial tax rates set to double starting 1 April.
Sargsyan cited statistics during the parliamentary session that showed more than 811 billion drams [$2.05 billion] were deposited into online casino accounts in 2024.
He argued that redirecting these funds into the economy could boost GDP by 10-15% and increase state revenues by 7.3%.
