DraftKings and FanDuel are on a roll when it comes to backing political campaigns in a state known for being at the center of college sports, marking an early victory for the industry as it seeks to install gambling-friendly lawmakers in state legislatures across the country.
A sports gambling super political action committee backed by the two companies poured more than $9.3 million into Alabama Republican primaries, boosting state-level candidates who are likely to help legalize gambling in the state. The super PAC, American Conservative Fund, spent more on Tuesday’s elections than any other group in the state. The second-highest spender was a super PAC funded by the crypto industry.
