Finnish state-owned operator Veikkaus reported a 7% year-on-year reduction in GGR in its H1 2024 financial report, to €482.8m [$534.5m]. The operator’s total sales revenue, including income generated by other business activities besides its B2C operations, came to €483.8m [$535.6m], down 6.8%.
The drop in revenue came about due to a combination of factors, Veikkaus said, including increased customer verification requirements for the purchase of scratchcards and lottery tickets.
Those changes contributed to a 21% reduction in the revenue from ticket-based games and a 44% reduction in scratchcard sales, Veikkaus said.
Another exacerbating factor was a broad reduction in customers’ purchasing power amid the high-inflation environment of the first half of the year.
