The challenge for gaming industry test labs in the year ahead is dealing with cyber-attacks, which are becoming more common.

BMM Testlabs Director Filippo Ferri said at ICE London that gaming equipment manufacturers must be sure they are resilient against such attacks. The test lab, one of only two such firms operating in every regulated market, offers 24/7 cybersecurity shields for companies in addition to helping the equipment makers meet regulatory requirements.

“Testing is broadly divided into two large areas,” Ferri said. “One is functional testing, the other is security audits. The former is concerned with the technology and how it works, to a certain degree from a user experience point of view. These requirements relate to percentage return to player, information which is provided to players, the reliability of your random number generator.”

Ferri said BMM works with a wide range of technical specifications for every product, as each jurisdiction has different regulations. These are transformed into checklists which BMM test products against.

“BMM is the world-leading certification laboratory, that is we are the oldest and best such laboratory in the world. It is our job to certify gaming platforms for the fully regulated gaming industry,” Ferri said. “We certify for both online and land-based gaming. You will need to come through us to have access to regulated markets around the world.”
