SYDNEY (AP) – Two former National Rugby League players and another man charged with taking part in an alleged betting scandal have had their cases thrown out of court.

Former players John Elias and Brad Murray and Jai Ayoub, the son of Murray’s manager Sam Ayoub, had been charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

The men placed bets on a game between North Queensland and Canterbury on Aug 21, 2010 on the first score being a North Queensland penalty goal, which did not occur.

Magistrate Greg Grogin said in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday that there was no evidence to link the men to illegal activity over the bets.

The three men said they will apply to have the prosecution pay for their court costs and legal fees.
