ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – A southeastern New York village has filed a lawsuit seeking to halt Caesars Entertainment’s plans for a casino in Woodbury, N.Y.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday by the Orange County village of Kiryas Joel argues that officials in Woodbury failed to analyze the environmental impact a casino in Woodbury would have on the village.
Kiryas Joel, a Hasidic Jewish community of 23,000 people, filed a similar lawsuit earlier this month to halt development of a casino in South Blooming Grove. The village argues the casinos would generate noise and traffic and put a burden on local water resources.
Development teams competing for a casino license have submitted several Orange County proposals. State gambling regulators are now reviewing the applications.
A Caesars spokeswoman said Wednesday that the lawsuit is “without merit.”
