LAS VEGAS (AP) – Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is due in court Tuesday before a state court judge considering whether Nevada is the place to hear a wrongful termination lawsuit by the former chief of Sands Macau operations.
Adelson spent Monday denying that Las Vegas Sands officials had a hand in firing Steven Jacobs as president of Sands China Ltd. in July 2010.
Adelson says he and company president Michael Leven talked about ousting Jacobs before Leven headed to Macau for the face-to-face firing.
But Adelson says that was in their roles as Sands China board members. And Leven could have been anywhere at the time – not necessarily in Las Vegas.
The question is important because business rules in China prohibit companies listed there from being controlled by a foreign entity.
