Penn National Gaming is adding Virginia to its sports betting holdings.

The gaming operator received a temporary permit from the Virginia Lottery on Wednesday to offer online sports betting in the commonwealth via its Barstool Sportsbook app, pending final regulatory approval.

“We look forward to adding Virginia to our portfolio of states where we operate sports betting as we continue our company’s evolution into the leading omni-channel provider of retail and online gaming, live racing and sports betting entertainment,” said Penn National CEO Jay Snowden.

Virginia marks the fourth state where Penn National’s app is available. The gaming operator introduced the Barstool Sportsbook app in Pennsylvania in 2020, in Michigan in January of this year, and in Illinois on March 11.

Penn National received one of a possible 12 online and mobile sports betting permits available in Virginia. Penn Sports Interactive, the company’s digital division, will work with the Virginia Lottery on the sportsbook.

“I’m confident that Virginians will also enjoy engaging with Dave Portnoy, Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz and other Barstool fan favorites on our Barstool Sportsbook app in the commonwealth,” Snowden said.
