The Virginia Lottery has reported the state’s three casinos combined for almost $56.6 million in adjusted gaming revenue in September, a 9 percent increase from the $51.9 million collected in the same month last year.
More than 76 percent or $43 million of the AGR, was generated by slots, while table games accounted for the remaining $13.5 million.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth led with $24.2 million in AGR, including around $17.9 million from slots and $6.4 million generated by table games. Caesars Virginia took second, collecting close to $18.3 million, while Hard Rock Bristol contributed the remaining $14.1 million to the revenue total.
Of these casinos, Caesars Virginia was the only one to report a year-over-year decrease of 4.6 percent. Rivers saw a 20.7 percent jump and Hard Rock Bristol’s revenue was up 10.8 percent compared to September 2023.
September’s totals resulted in $11.4 million in taxes paid to the Gaming Proceeds Fund, which supports the host city, problem gambling treatment, school construction and more. These contributions could increase soon after the Norfolk City Council recently gave Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe the green light to start building a fourth casino in the state. Norfolk voters approved the casino in November 2020.
