The United States Igaming Revenue Report — September 2020

An overview of igaming revenue in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia, the four states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.

Pennsylvania

Total igaming revenues in Pennsylvania for September 2020 amounted to $57 million, another new record for online casino games and poker in the Keystone State, up from August’s record of $55.9 million (2 percent). It was also a significant increase over the $4.1 million in revenues collected by the online operators in September 2019, the second month of igaming in Pennsylvania.

As is typical, Rivers Casino reaped the most online slot revenues at $14.4 million, down $2.7 million from August, while Penn National (DraftKings.com) led at the tables with $5.6 million. The poker rake at Mount Airy Casino, the state’s only online poker site, was $2.4 million, down 11.2 percent from August’s $2.7 million, itself a drop of 9 percent from July.

Tax revenue from online casinos and poker added up to $24.3 million, a slight increase over August and a little more than 20 percent of total gaming-tax revenues statewide.

New Jersey

Unlike Pennsylvania, Internet gaming win in New Jersey didn’t set another record, generating $87.6 million, slightly shy of August’s $87.8 million. That was slightly more than July’s $87.5 million, so the Garden State’s online gambling revenues have been essentially flat for summer 2020.

Online poker raked $2.6 million, down from a little more than $3 million in August (-13 percent), itself a 37.5 percent drop from July (when the World Series of Poker’s 31-day tournament was taking place).

For the month, New Jersey collected $13.2 million in online-gaming taxes, virtually the same as it did in August.

Delaware

Delaware’s igaming revenues were $840,146, an increase of 3.8 percent over August’s $808,623.

Online video lottery games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income, $610.356 from a handle of $11.5 million, up 6.3% over August’s $572,539. The poker rake and fees were $51,403, down 5.9 percent from August’s $54,584.

West Virginia

Unlike the other three states with online casino gambling, West Virginia reports weekly instead of monthly, so the igaming revenue number is extrapolated. The West Virginia reporting week starts on Saturday (Saturday September 5 to the week ending on Saturday September 26), so September 1-5 and 27-30 have been estimated.

Online gambling revenue for the month was $1.9 million on a handle of just under $75 million. In only the second full month of igaming in West Virginia, the handle was up 89.3% and revenues increased by a whopping 242% month over month. The revenue isn’t broken down by slots or table games.

National

Total igaming revenue for September 2020 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia added up to $147.3 million, 3.2 percent higher than August’s total of $145.1 million.
