An overview of igaming revenue in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia, the four states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.
Pennsylvania
Igaming revenue in Pennsylvania set a record for the third month in row. The total for October 2020 amounted to $59.8 million, up from September’s record of $57 million, an increase of 4.7 percent, itself a 2 percent jump from August’s record of $55.9 million. Year over year, it was a major leap from the $4.9 million generated in October 2019, the second month of online gambling in Pennsylvania.
Total revenue from online slots was $40.3 million, table games $17 million, and online poker $2.4 million.
As usual, Rivers Casino Philadelphia ranked first in terms of revenue, posting $16.6 million for the month, of which $14.1 million was from slots. Penn National (DraftKings.com) led at the tables with $6 million.
Tax revenue from online casinos and poker added up to $24.9 million, a 2.5 percent increase over September.
New Jersey
Like Pennsylvania, New Jersey’s online gambling revenue set a new record, logging $93.5 million, a 6.1% percent increase over the previous record of $87.8 million set in August. October’s take more than doubled the amount registered in October 2019.
Online poker raked $2.5 million, continuing a three-month slide, down 4 percent from September’s $2.6 million and 16.6 percent from August’s $3 million.
Though the Golden Nugget’s online casino again held the state’s top spot in igaming revenues, its market share continues to decline, from a high of 36 percent in July to 29.7 percent in October.
For the month, New Jersey collected $14 million in online-gaming taxes, up nearly 6 percent from September.
Delaware
Delaware’s igaming revenues for October were $643,714, a major 23.4% decline from September’s $840,146 and the state’s lowest monthly total since March 2020 ($514,959).
Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $450,428, while table games generated slightly more than $150,000. Poker rake and fees collected $43,276, down 16 percent from September’s $51,403.
West Virginia
Unlike the other three states with online casino gambling, West Virginia reports weekly instead of monthly, so the igaming revenue number is extrapolated. The West Virginia reporting week for the month began on Saturday October 3 and ended on Friday October 31, so revenues for October 1 and 2 have been estimated.
Like Delaware, West Virginia experienced a decline in igaming revenues over its third full month in the market. Online gambling revenue for October was $1.6 million, down 16% from September, on a handle of $53 million, down 29% from September’s $75 million. The revenue isn’t broken down by slots or table games.
National
Total igaming revenue for October 2020 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia added up to $155.5 million, an increase of 5.3 percent over September’s total of $147.3 million.
