An overview of igaming revenue in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Delaware, the six states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.
National
Total igaming revenue for June 2023 in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Delaware added up to $474.3 million, a 21.1% increase over June 2022’s $378.8 million and getting closer and closer to a half-billion dollars for the month.
1. Michigan
Michigan’s igaming revenue of $151 million was a 19.5% jump from June 2022’s $121.5 million and the highest total of the six igaming states. With half the year in the rear-view mirror, Michigan looks to be on a pace to approach, or even surpass, $1 billion in online-casino win for the full year.
The 15 internet casinos paid a total of $28.4 million in taxes, a commensurate 20.8% higher than a year ago.
2. New Jersey
For the month of June, New Jersey reported internet-gambling win of $149.3 million compared to $133.1 million a year ago, a 10.9% increase.
For the first time since this report has been produced, Golden Nugget jumped past Borgata in digital revenue, with $41.8 million compared to the latter’s $39.4 million; Golden Nugget’s total was nearly 15% higher year over year. Resorts Digital came in third as usual, with $35.6 million.
New Jersey collected $22.4 million in online-gambling taxes in June, an almost exactly commensurate 10.8% higher than in June 2022.
3. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania generated $135.4 million in igaming revenue in June, another major increase of 24% compared to 2022’s $102.9 million.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National led igaming revenue with $57.8 million, a jump of 27.3% over last year’s $42 million, while Valley Forge Casino was a distant second with $28 million, though it was 52.6% higher year over year.
Total revenue from online slots came in at $98.2 million, up 26.4% over last year’s $72.3 million, while table games produced $34.8 million, 19.5% higher than last year’s total. Online poker’s $2.4 million was 7.7% lower than the $2.6 million in June 2022.
Tax revenue generated from June’s igaming revenue in Pennsylvania was just under $59 million, an increase of 25.6% over June 2022’s $43.9 million.
4. Connecticut
Connecticut’s two operators, DraftKings and FanDuel, in June earned $14.9 million and $11.8 million, respectively. The total, $26.7 million, was 39% more than last year’s $16.3 million.
The two companies paid their 18% in taxes to the Constitution State in April, which came to $4 million.
5. West Virginia
The Mountain State’s igaming revenue for June 2022 was $10.8 million, an increase of 23.2% over last year’s $8.3 million. This is all the more significant, given that June 2022’s reporting period (May 29 to June 30) was seven full days longer than this year’s (June 4-30).
6. Delaware
Delaware’s June 2023 igaming net was flat at $1.1 million, the same as a year earlier.
As always, online video lottery (slot) games accounted for the lion’s share of income at $925,302, a mere .01% increase over last year’s $924,272, while table games generated $180,168, a much more significant 15.8% increase year over year. Online poker’s $40,182 was a drop of 6.8% from last year’s $43,121.
