Total igaming revenue for July 2021 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and Michigan added up to $305 million, an increase of 5% from June’s $289.8 million.

1. New Jersey

New Jersey posted a new record win of $118.6 million in igaming revenue in July, beating the previous record of $113.7 million set in March of this year by 4.2%. The Garden State’s online casino revenue also topped nine figures for the sixth time in July and the fifth month in a row. All nine online casinos based in New Jersey posted revenue increases month over month and the total was a significant 9.8% increase from June’s $107 million. It was also a 35.9% jump over June 2020.

At $36.4 million, Borgata’s July revenue was 5.8% higher than its $34.3 million in June, while Golden Nugget Online Gaming’s $33.5 million was a major 18% jump over June’s $27.6 million. It’s the fifth month in a row that Borgata has beaten out GNOG in the revenue race and it looks like the lead may be permanent. Third-place Resorts Digital earned $23.3 million, a 3.5% increase over June’s $22.5 million.

New Jersey collected $17.8 million in online-gambling taxes in July, a 9.6% increase over June’s $16.1 million.

2. Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s online gaming revenue fell for the second month in a row in July. Though revenue of $88.6 million was a mere .3% lower, it was a substantial 12.5% plunge from the record of $101.3 million set in May.

Total revenue from online slots increased by 4.3% to $63.2 million in July over $60.5 million in June. Online poker’s $2.6 million was also an increase, up 7.3% from June’s $2.4 million. Table games accounted for the slight overall igaming loss, dropping by 12.3% to $22.8 million from June’s $26 million.

Penn National Gaming’s $32.1 million was an 8% decrease from June’s $34.9 million, while second-place Rivers Casino Pennsylvania’s $25.8 million showed a nearly 10% increase over June’s $23.3 million.

Tax revenue generated from July igaming in Pennsylvania was $38.2 million, a slight increase of 2.5% over June’s $37.2%.

3. Michigan

In its sixth full month of igaming, Michigan’s online casino revenue rebounded from its 6% month-for-month decline in June with a 3.5% increase in July. Michigan’s 14 internet casinos net $92.3 million, up from $89.2 million the month before. It was also the fourth of six months in which Michigan eclipsed $90 million in igaming revenue. During the month, Firekeepers Casino reported its first full month of online earnings.

For the sixth month in a row, BetMGM led the pack of 14 with $33.8 million in revenue, the same as in June. DraftKings (Bay Mills) and FanDuel (Motor City) flip-flopped in the second- and third-place rankings again, with $15.2 million and $14.4 million, respectively.

The 14 internet casinos paid $17.1 million in state taxes in July, up 20% from June’s $13.7 million, which was a drop of nearly 25% from May. The three Detroit casinos paid the city $4.3 million, up 28% from June’s $3.1 million, while tribal governments received $2.1 million in tax payments, up 9.5% from June’s $1.9 million.

4. West Virginia

The Mountain State’s igaming revenue was in line with New Jersey’s, as it reached a new record revenue of $4.7 million, topping by 8.5% the previous record of $4.3 million set in May. It was also the first time since internet gambling launched in the state in July 2020 that igaming won at least $1 million in each week (West Virginia reports results weekly). The week ending July 24 was West Virginia’s best ever at $1.3 million. The month’s revenues represented a significant 22% increase over June’s $3.9 million.

5. Delaware

It was either feast of famine in July, as Delaware, like Pennsylvania, hit the doldrums in igaming revenue. Delaware’s internet casinos earned $793,017 in July, a loss of 6% from June’s $843,117, itself a minus 7.4% from May’s $910,389. July posted the lowest monthly igaming total since February.

Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $632,716, down 10.4% from June’s $705,644, while table games generated $126,992, an increase of 17% month over month. Online poker finally reversed its long downside slide, earning $33,309, a rise of 4% over June’s $32,000.
