The Canadian igaming industry is losing a familiar face.
It was announced Tuesday that Nic Sulsky is leaving his role as PointsBet Canada’s chief commercial officer to become CEO of The Curling Group, which in turn announced it reached an agreement with Sportsnet to assume ownership and operations of the Grand Slam of Curling after the conclusion of this season.
Sulsky joined PointsBet Canada in June 2021, ten months before the Ontario regulated igaming market went live.
The Curling Group is a new business venture led by Sulsky, sports, media, and entertainment industry vet Mike Cotton, former NFL star Jared Allen, and two-time Olympic gold medal curler John Morris. Jennifer Jones, along with other elite international curlers, are involved as strategic advisors.
Operated by Sportsnet since 2012, the Grand Slam of Curling is an elite series of curling events that feature the best men’s and women’s teams from Canada and around the world, with at least $2 million in total prize money up for grabs each season.
While no longer owners, Sportsnet will remain as exclusive broadcaster of the series in Canada.
“As I embark on this new journey with the Grand Slam of Curling, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead and thankful for the support of my colleagues at PointsBet,” Sulsky said. “I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the sports industry and am eager to see what the future holds for the sport of curling and PointsBet alike.”
PointsBet Canada is the official sportsbetting partner of Curling Canada.
“Nic Sulsky has been an invaluable leader and partner at PointsBet, driving our commercial success and helping us realize our vision of delivering a world-class igaming experience deeply rooted in Canadian sport. His contributions have been instrumental in shaping PointsBet into the innovative and customer-centric company it is today,” said PointsBet Canada CEO Scott Vanderwel in a statement.
“We wish Nic nothing but the best in his future endeavors and look forward to seeing him achieve continued success, and also want to reassure our stakeholders that Nic’s departure does not signify a change in PointsBet’s dedication to the Canadian market. We remain steadfast in our commitment and growth plans for Canada, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead.”
