CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Gov. Maggie Hassan is urging the House not to let Massachusetts benefit from casino revenues that could help pay for vital New Hampshire services.
Hassan told a joint House panel on Tuesday that a Senate bill to license a single casino and allow up to 5,000 video slot machines in New Hampshire will mean jobs and revenue for education, hospital aid and school construction.
The Senate passed the bill last month, but the House has consistently rejected casino bills over the years.
Supporters argued New Hampshire will lose money once three casinos are operating in Massachusetts. But opponents said lawmakers should not be lured by the promise of easy money that also will bring increased crime and social problems.
