COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – The Hard Rock casino has been ordered to pay $5,000 for admitting a self-banned gambler in Sioux City.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission levied the penalty during Thursday’s meeting in Council Bluffs.
The commission says the woman signed up for a player’s club card on Nov. 21 and then tried to cash a check on Dec. 9. That’s when the Sioux City casino officials discovered that in 2007 she’d sought the lifetime ban. The list of more than 7,000 self-banned gamblers is supposed to be routinely checked by all of the 18 state-licensed casinos.
It’s the casino’s second violation of the state requirement. In March the Hard Rock was fined $3,000 for a Nov. 1 violation.
