SBC Wednesday announced it has agreed to acquire the Canadian Gaming Summit from the Canadian Gaming Association and MediaEdge Communications.
The acquisition of the annual conference and trade show for land-based and igaming professionals in Canada will be completed in June after this year’s CGS in Toronto. The deal includes the Canadian Gaming Business news website, e-newsletter and print magazine.
SBC & Sport Global Group CEO and Founder Rasmus Sojmark said via LinkedIn that the acquisition “increases our footprint in what is likely to be one of the fastest growing markets in the world, as single-event betting is set to transform the gaming industry in Canada.”
Per the arrangement, SBC will work with MediaEdge and the CGA to bring more content and commercial opportunities to this year’s Summit in Toronto. The three organizations will host a Special Gaming Industry Reception April 4 to celebrate the launch of Ontario’s new online gaming regime.
“The CGA’s membership has grown significantly in the last year, and we are excited to open new opportunities to broaden our members’ access to networking and exchanging ideas on issues of common cause,” said CGA President & CEO Paul Burns in a statement. “We already have a great working relationship with the SBC team and look forward to working together for many years to come.”
The CGA will continue to be involved as an official and strategic partner of the Summit after the acquisition and work with SBC to ensure continued support for the development of the gaming industry in Canada.
“This is a wonderful acquisition for SBC,” Sojmark said in a statement, “as it fits perfectly with our growing portfolio of market-leading events and media properties in the US and Latin America.
