With an eye of profitability by fiscal year 2025, PointsBet Canada has appointed a new “Head of Casino” to help carve a pathway there. The company has hired Brooke Hilton for the position and the move comes at a crucial time as the company works to significantly enhance its casino offering.
Hilton is a native of Vancouver, with more than 10 years of experience in the North American regulated igaming industry. Hilton’s career has focused on developing localized commercial strategies and managing casino operations for North American regulated operators, including British Columbia Lottery Corporation and their PlayNow.com casino platform, as well as Bally Interactive and their BallyBet Casino.
Hilton has spearheaded both go-to market and casino product launches by managing cross-functional relationships with key groups including technical integration, user experience, retention marketing, business intelligence, and compliance.
A PointsBet Canada statement said she is skilled in getting products live and managing their operations within the constraints of each Canadian market’s unique competitive and regulatory environment.
The Ontario numbers bear out PointsBet Canada’s strategy. In the just-released Q2 FY (2023-24) market performance report, Ontario saw $14.2 billion in total wagers in Q2. That total wager number does not include promotional wagers (bonuses). That’s up from $14 billion in Q1 (April 1 to June 30, 2023).
Ontario saw $540 million in total gaming revenue in Q2, down from $545 million in Q1. Total gaming revenue is total cash wagers, including rake fees, tournament fees and other fees, minus player winnings derived from cash wagers. That number does not take into account operating costs or other liabilities.
Specifically, in Q2, casino games (slots, live and computer-based tables games and peer-to-peer bingo) accounted for almost $11.9 billion (84 percent) of total wagers and 75 percent ($407 million) of gaming revenue.
