SBC (Sports Betting Community), the organizers of the Betting on Sports America conference, announced on Wednesday that two Philadelphia sports legends will speak at the inaugural conference on April 24 as part of a panel discussion on the crossover potential between sports, sports betting, and venture capital.
2008 World Series champion and 2005 National League MVP Ryan Howard, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies, and Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Famer Brian Westbrook have conformed their attendance at the conference in New Jersey.
The two former stars are active investors at SeventySix Capital, a venture capital company that invests in startup companies in the sports tech, esports and sports betting industries. They, along with SeventySix Capital Managing Partner Wayne Kimmel, will be discussing the active investments they’ve made and the opportunities for investment that they see in the rapidly growing sports betting business.
The investors will be speaking at “From Athlete to Entrepreneur: Venture Capital & Sports Betting,” a specially designed session in which they will discuss their passion for investing in sports tech and sports betting startups.
“The opening of sports betting restrictions has created opportunities for investment,” Howard said. “My partners and I at SeventySix Capital are investing in the elements of the sports betting industry that consumers need, including data collection, analytics and media. We’re excited to share our insight with Betting on Sports America conference attendees.”
“Both my professional football career and my status as an investor have created a lot of exciting opportunities in the sports tech world,” Westbrook said. “When you throw sports betting into the mix, the investment opportunities have the potential to hit new heights.”
Rasmus Sojmark, CEO and Founder of SBC, said, “We are very pleased to have legends like Ryan Howard and Brian Westbrook on hand as part of the Betting on Sports America agenda,” SBC CEO and founder Rasmus Sojmark said. “The team at SeventySix Capital are visionaries in sports tech investment… their expertise fits in perfectly with sports betting.”
The Betting on Sports America conference is scheduled for April 23-25 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey.
