The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board this week reported January gaming revenue of $477.1 million, a year-over-year increase of 2.7%.
The commonwealth’s gaming revenue was boosted by huge increases in sports betting (78.5% year-over-year to $69.9 million) and igaming ($110.0 million, a 22.0% increase from January 2023) which helped offset drops in slots (down 11.4% to $179.5 million) and table games (down 13.4% to $72.7 million).
Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia led all casinos with revenue of $91.8 million, a 35.3% increase. Valley Forge, traditionally Pennsylvania’s leader in sports betting handle and revenue, led the state in both of those categories with a handle of $373.0 million and revenue of $39.5 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville saw a gaming revenue drop of 14.1% year-over-year to $61.7 million. Parx Casino in Philadephia also experienced a revenue decrease to $51.2 million, a 7.7% decrease.
And while Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands generated the sixth most revenue in January, the $33.1 million the casino brought in was a whopping 69.5% increase. Like Valley Forge, the Meadows revenue was boosted by outstanding sports betting results, with a handle of $211.9 million yielding $19.0 million in revenue.
Slot revenue for the month dropped 11.4% to $179.5 million from the $202.2 million generated in January 2023. The top three slot revenue generators all suffered decreases. Parx Casino in Philadelphia’s $28.1 million was a 13.8% year-over-year decrease. Wind Creek Bethlehem generated $21.0 million, a decrease of $11.8 million, and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh slot revenue decreased 3.8% to $20.3 million.
The $110.0 million in igaming revenue was led by Hollywood Casino at Penn National’s $50.5 million, followed by Valley Forge Casino Resort with $41.6 million, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s $29.6 million.
After Valley Forget and the Meadows, Pennsylvania’s leading sports betting revenue generators were Hollywood Casino Morgantown with $3.5 million from a handle of $47.5 million, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $1.8 million from a handle of $34.3 million, and Parx Casino, which also generated $1.8 million from a handle of $20.6 million.
Parx Casino’s handle of $24.5 million yielded revenue of $1.00 million, while Harrah’s Philadelphia’s $998.8 million in revenue came from a handle of $47.6 million.
