Pennsylvania: Gaming revenue increases to $479 million in May

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Tuesday reported revenue of $479.4 million in May from all forms of gaming, a year-over-year increase of 7.05%.

The total is a slight increase from the $476.7 million reported in April of this year, and the ninth consecutive month gaming revenue in the Keystone State exceeded $420 million.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville again led Pennsylvania casinos with $74.3 million, an 18.3% increase over May 2022. Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia posted revenue of $64.2 million, a year-over-year increase of 21.7%, and Parx Casino in Philadelphia generated $58.7 million, a modest 2.2% increase.

Statewide slot revenue reached $210.8 million, with Park Casino leading all casinos with $33.9 million in revenue, a slight year-over-year decline of 1.2%. Wind Creek Bethlehem, with revenue of $24.5 million (a decrease of 1.8%) and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $22.4 (an increase year-over-year of 0.9%) rounded out the top three slot producers.

Revenue from igaming continued to increase, with the state generating $140.9 million, a 24.4% jump. Hollywood Casino at Penn National led all operators with igaming revenue of $58.4 million, a 28.4% increase from May 2022, Valley Forge generated a year-over-year increase of 39.4%, with revenue of $29.5 million, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s $29.4 million was 9.0% increase.

Table games accounted for $81.6 million in revenue, a 7.8% drop. Despite a 11.9% drop, Wind Creek Bethlehem led all casinos with $19.8 million. Parx Casino posted an increase of 2.9% to $18.1 million and in distant third was Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $8.0 million in table games revenue, a 7.7% drop.

Revenue from sports betting in May was $41.1 million from a handle of $495.6 million, a year-over-year increase of 17.4%.  Valley Forge Casino Resort’s handle of $194.4 million yielded revenue of $22.5 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands reported sports betting revenue of $8.8 million from a handle of $133.3 million, and Hollywood Casino in Morgantown’s May sports betting revenue was $1.5 million from a $36.8 million handle.
