Pennsylvania: Gaming revenue increased 13% to $440 million in June

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Tuesday reported that revenue from all forms of gambling reached $440,491,675 million in June. The revenue is a year-over-year increase of 13%, and is the 10th consecutive month streak gaming revenue has topped $420 million.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville led Pennsylvania in total gaming revenue with $72.5 million, an increase of 27.3% over June 2022.  The Penn Entertainment property brought in more than $20 million over the next highest revenue generator, Parx Casino in Philadelphia, which was responsible for $51.3 million, a slight drop of 1.98% from June 2022. Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia posted revenue of $51.2 million, a year-over-year increase of 48.2%.

Slot revenue was $201.5 million in June, down a little over $9 million from May’s total of $210.8 million, but a year-over-year increase of 4.4%. Parx Casino led will slot revenue $31.1 million, a 1.94% decrease from the same time period in 2022. Wind Creek Bethlehem posted slot revenue of $23.1 million, a year-over-year increase of 2.5%, and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s slot revenue reached $20.9 million, a slight year-over-year decrease of 1.24%.

Revenue from igaming, including slots, table games and poker, was $135.4 million, a year-over-year increase of 31.6%. Hollywood Casino at Penn National more than doubled its nearest competitor, generating igaming revenue of $57.8 million compared to the $28.1 million posted by Valley Forge Casino Resort. Rivers Casino Philadelphia reported igaming revenue of $26.9 million. Only one other Pennsylvania casino had more than $5 million in igaming revenue, Harrah’s Philadelphia, with $5.9 million.

Sports betting revenue in June was $23.0 million, with a handle of $373.2 million, a year-over-year decrease of 5.1%. Valley Forge Casino Resort again led all operators with sports betting revenue of $11.4 million from a handle of $139.6 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands generated sports betting revenue of $6.0 million from a handle of $133.3 million, and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $18.4 million handle yielded revenue of $1.1 million.

J.P. Morgan analyst Joseph Greff wrote in a statement that promotional spend for sports betting was “$10.8 million market-wide, reflecting 2.9% of handle. We note that the highest on an operator basis was BetMGM at 5.2%, followed by FanDuel at 3.8%, Penn Entertainment at 2.6%, DraftKings at 1.9%, and Caesar’s Entertainment at 1.9%.
