BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Baton Rouge officials are starting to weigh in on a proposed smoking ban for casinos and bars.
The Advocate reports East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council members are questioning what the ban would look like and if it could impact revenue the city-parish receives from casinos.
Councilwomen Tara Wicker and Chauna Banks-Daniel say they’re waiting for a recently launched smoke-free campaign to catch fire before submitting an ordinance to ban smoking in casinos and bars. Those are the two main workplaces exempted from a state smoke-free law that went into effect in 2007.
None of Baton Rouge casinos have voiced opposition to the idea of eradicating smoking yet.
The push in Baton Rouge comes less than a year after New Orleans banned smoking in bars and casinos.
