Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady recently presented a $11,427 check to the Capital Region Veterans Memorial to support the organization’s mission to honor local veterans and provide a place of reflection, healing, and remembrance for veterans, their families, and the community.
The donation was raised through two Rivers Casino initiatives. Nearly $8,000 came from the casino’s monthly Rivers Gives: Donations Make a Difference fundraiser, in which casino guests donate chips, uncashed vouchers, and cash to support local nonprofit organizations. An additional $3,500 was raised through Kicks for a Cause, a Rivers fundraiser that allowed gaming team members to make a donation in exchange for wearing sneakers on the casino floor on Saturdays.
“Helping support veterans and their families is something we take great pride in doing,” Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Vice President of Human Resources Anna Boyd said in a statement. “Our guests and team members consistently step up to support meaningful causes in our community, and we’re thrilled to contribute to a project that will honor the sacrifices of Capital Region veterans for generations to come.”
On a six-acre, park-like property at the intersection of Dutch Meadows Lane and Route 50 in Glenville, New York, the Capital Region Veterans Memorial Legacy Project is dedicated to creating a welcoming space where veterans, their families, and the public can find camaraderie, comfort, and peace while helping veterans heal the invisible wounds of war. When completed, the memorial will feature monuments honoring Capital Region veterans who gave their lives in major conflicts including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The site also will include a Welcome Center, Veterans Café, and Military Museum.
