An on-site visit to Legends Bay Casino by CDC Gaming confirmed the recently reported cybersecurity event’s effect on operations at the Sparks, Nevada casino. Olympia Gaming’s other northern Nevada casino, Casino Fandango in Carson City, likely has the same systems affected.
Though reported only yesterday by local news, the cyberattack dates back to Wednesday, June 12th according to employees. While the casino remains open and operational, on-site signage states the massive effects on operations at Legends Bay Casino:
- Cash Hand Pays Only: All hand-pay jackpots and cash-outs will be paid in person with cash.
- CF Rewards Card: The casino is currently unable to print rewards cards or enroll new players.
- Points and Comp Dollars: Points may not be awarded or tracked.
- Vouchers: Voucher, movie ticket, hotel room, and other vouchers are unavailable for redemption at this time.
- Free Play Offers and Casino promotions are unavailable
- Cash only at restaurants
In addition, ATMs are down. The Circa Sportsbook was not impacted.
Olympia Gaming says they are working with “national cybersecurity specialists to investigate the full nature and scope of the incident and to restore operations.” They also believe that no personal or sensitive information has been or will be disclosed.
As of 2:25 pm ET on June 20th, 2024, the casino’s website appeared mostly operational except when logging into the rewards account which displays the message “clubacct.legendsbaycasino.com took too long to respond.”
There is currently no timeline for a full restoration of operations. Olympia Gaming was contacted for additional statements by CDC Gaming but no additional info was given.
The Olympia Gaming cybersecurity event is the latest in a string of incidents affecting casinos big and small. Most recently in April, the Swinomish Casino closed for some of April for “technical issues,” which was later revealed to be a cyber attack. Cyberattacks on MGM and Caesars in 2023 brought the issue to the forefront, and that “anyone is vulnerable.”
Legends Bay Casino opened on August 30, 2022, as the Reno-Sparks area’s first new ground-up casino in over 20 years. According to the casino’s website, it has over 650 slots.
