The National Council on Problem Gambling Thursday announced that five organizations are recipients of its Fall 2023 Agility Grants. Funding totaling $176,000 will be granted to the organizations to support programs dedicated to Prevention Innovation and Prevention Amplification programs.

“Through Agility Grant funding, we aim to foster dynamic and responsive problem gambling prevention programs, helping to ensure that communities across the country are equipped to address this critical need with flexibility and innovation,” said NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte in a statement. “Each recipient receiving support this round displayed exemplary commitment to cultural competence, tailoring their approaches with sensitivity to the diverse needs of the populations they serve.”

The Prevention Innovation recipients are:

  • The Alabama Council on Compulsive Gambling Prevention for its program, “It’s More Than Just a Game,” that will deliver gambling prevention education to middle school students in Alabama.
  • The Problem Gambling Coalition of Colorado. In partnership with the Denver Justice High School and the Denver Art Society, the PGCC will increase awareness and education of problem gambling through the Stacked Deck problem gambling prevention curriculum for high-school students.

Prevention Amplification recipients:

  • AdCare Educational Institute of Maine, in a partnership with The New England Prevention Technology Transfer Center, will develop a graphic novel about youth gambling prevention for distribution in New England as part of their Youth Gambling Prevention Graphic Medicine project.
  • The LCADA Way in Ohio will launch the Lorain County Problem Gambling Prevention Initiative to raise awareness about risks associated with gambling and emphasize positive decision-making skills, with development of campaign materials led by teenagers.
  • The Maryland Council on Problem Gambling will launch Culturally Infused Problem Gambling Prevention for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consumers, a new program featuring specific prevention public awareness materials that reflect the realities in Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.

The NCPG Agility Grants serve as a resource for nonprofit organizations engaged in problem gambling prevention. The program is designed to address service gaps in areas lacking such provisions and to foster promising endeavors. More than $1 million will be granted between 2022 and 2024 to establish and enhance problem gambling prevention strategies.

The Agility Grants program is made possible through a multimillion-dollar, multi-year commitment by the National Football League via the NFL Foundation as part of its responsible betting public awareness campaign. FanDuel provides additional support for Agility Grants.
