BOSTON (AP) – Mohegan Sun says it’s exploring “non-gaming projects” for its site in Palmer, after failing to persuade local voters to support a $1 billion casino project.
The announcement comes before a planned recount next week requested by Mohegan Sun and the Yes for Palmer Committee.
Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority CEO Mitchell Etess said Friday that Palmer made it clear the community is “sharply divided on the issue of casino gaming” and a recount won’t change that fact.
Mohegan Sun also said their own analysis of the Nov. 5 referendum has determined the outcome is unlikely to change as a result of the recount.
Chip Tuttle, chief operating officer of Suffolk Downs, confirmed Thursday that Mohegan Sun is among several companies that have discussed partnering with Suffolk Downs on a revised casino proposal in Revere.
