JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi casino revenue kept growing in September, as Gulf of Mexico gambling hall strength was joined by more indications of easing declines at Mississippi River casinos.
State Revenue Department figures Tuesday show casinos won $165 million from gamblers in September, up 3 percent from $160.1 million in September 2014.
The 11 coastal casinos won $92 million, up 4 percent from last year. The 17 river casinos won $73 million, up 2 percent from September 2014. The Natchez Isle of Capri casino closed Sunday, cutting river casinos to 16.
It’s the 12th increase in 14 months for coastal casinos, but only the fifth improvement in 39 months along the river. Statewide revenue is up 1 percent over last year.
Numbers exclude Choctaw Indian casinos, which don’t report winnings to the state.
